Well, I have a new half-sister. Baby Coletta Grace was born into this word on February 8 at 5:32pm. She was 7 pounds and 20 inches long! She looks very healthy and.... new! We're sorry that we don't have a chance to meet her until the summer, but we are still excited for then.
congrats to Sarah and Mark, please keep us updated!
love,
Caitlin and Mark
As promised, by my darling husband, here's the play by play on our Kaua'i weekend......
Got in on Friday night. Found our accomodations at Poipo Beach Surfsong. Let's just say that we didn't go to Kaua'i to spend time in our room & we got exactly what we paid for.
For those of you that may consider visiting Kaua'i someday, you should be forewarned that food is EXPENSIVE. Thankfully, we brought our handy cooler & Costco sized hummus & made a trip to the local grocery store.
So Saturday, we packed up our cooler & drove to Waimea Canyon. Gorgeous. The pictures still don't do it justice. We went hiking in the area - nice view of the Na Pali coast.
Sunday, more of the Na Pali coast. We went hiking on the Kalalau Trail to Hanakapiai Beach. Lunch at the beach & hiked a little ways past & then turned around & hiked back out. Please note when you look at the pics, that some were taken at the end of a 5 mile muddy & hilly hike. Neither one of us are looking all that pretty!
On our drive back to Poipu, we stopped at some waterfalls (yes, we are spoiled & not nearly as impressed as we should be) & Kilauea Lighthouse. Pretty pretty! We enjoyed a little birdwatching - red footed boobies!
Monday, we really embraced our inner dorks & went to the National Tropical Botanical Garden. If only Ellie, Gramma & Pattie could have been there! The plants were amazing & we also got to see some white tailed tropicbirds & common moorhens. And yes, we do have a bird guide & binoculars that we always travel with.
After the plants & birds, we were driving along figuring out where to go snorkeling and we were incredibly fortunate to see a Hawaiian Monk Seal coming onto a beach. I yelled at Mark to pull over, I jumped out of the car & he left to park. Hawaiian Monk seals are endemic (native) to Hawaii & very much endangered at this point - only about 1200 individuals left. We watched the seal get comfortable, displace some sunbathers & fall asleep. A bit of snorkeling, then some Scrabble on the beach & back to the airport for our 1/2 hour flight home.
Enjoy the photos!

PS-as long as I'm posting.....Have I mentioned that Pattie & Mike will be here in less than 2 weeks? We're VERY excited! (:
